Book Blogger Hop #35 – Do You Own More Than One Copy of a Book?

Book Blogger Hop.PNG

The Book Blogger Hop is a weekly meme with a prompt featuring a book related question. The hop begins on a Friday and ends on a Thursday and should hopefully give people the opportunity to learn something new about the blogger.

The Book Blogger Hop can be found on Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer and obviously my answers can be found here!

Do you own more than one copy of a book

Last week when asked if I always carried a book with me I played ‘anatomy of a handbag.’ This week I’m going to play ‘anatomy of a book stack.’

It’s not a lot of multiple copies but I am that person who likes to receive (and buy) signed copies and special editions of books I already own.

Here are some um…. outtakes from me trying to take that photo.

She hates having her photo taken but the second I want to take a photo of anything else she’s just got to be involved.

Blog Hop

I have not done so well at this recently *slaps own hand* but I shall hopefully be able to ‘get back on it’ soon. I say this with regularity I know!

Breaker

Let me know whether you have more one than copy of a book and what the reasons are for those copies. Heck, let me know if you have a cat or other fur-baby that just can’t stop themselves from nosing!

Until next later this week when the question is about what authors do I always read and recommend!

  1. Awww Willow! ❤ I especially love the one where she's peeking from the back with mischievous intent. xD I actually only have one book in two copies and that's H.P.Lovecraft's complete stories, both editions are deluxe, and one is in Serbian and the other in English. Oh wait, I have the illustrated Harry Potter's too, and the regular ones, so that's three more books in multiples. I would love to have every possible version of Harry Potter though! I don't have any of the books from your picture sadly, but hopefully I'll buy them all!

    1. She is literally the Queen of mischievous intent. Honestly, she’s so hard to pin down to take a photo of her when I want to take a photo of her and then she just miraculously appears when I’m trying to be all photographyie.

Oooh that’s an interesting point for multiple language speakers – having a copy of a book in your native language and your non-native one – which I guess would probably be English 99% of the time? I quite like the idea of that especially for special editions.

I never touch my special ones, they sit and look pretty but the version of the book that I read always looks battered and abused!

      1. Hehehe I love her. 😀

Yup, English as a second language 100% of the time haha, I’m not yet well versed in my 3rd language to read serious books. :/

Hahaha, well I do that with kindle vs special edition, so most of my actual books look unopened haha. 😀

    1. Thank you! I think so too but then I am hugely biased!

A lot of my multiples are special or different editions of the book that have been gifted to me as I wouldn’t buy them for myself. I think people have cottoned onto my likes now and so I guess that makes me easy to buy presents for! 😛

I keep the signed copy but then regift the unsigned (and read) version so that way I always end up with the one copy and not multiples. I just have to be reaaaally careful not to donate the wrong one!

  2. I have a couple multiples where I bought prettier covers and plan to get rid of the original. Plus, I have a special Slytherin edition of Philosopher’s Stone (20th Anniversary). Also, please include more pictures of your cat being a nuisance. I love and would do anything for her.

    1. I quite like the idea of buying new pretty versions once a book has been read and then regifting or donating the original version. I did that with Norse Mythology, I brought two copies – one original signed from Neil Gaiman which I have kept and one unsigned one that I read and then gave to a friend! I was also gifted a copy because people know I love Neil Gaiman!

A Slytherin edition of the Philosopher’s Stone sounds absolutely gorgeous!

Oh my cat is a mischief and I’ll be sure to include more photos!

  3. Haha 4 copies of Americans Gods is so on brand for you! That Folio Society edition is gorgeous (I’m jealous) and I love your beautiful cat. Awww I could go on and on and on and ON about how much I love black cats, but I won’t cuz…no explanation needed. 😛

I don’t own as many books as most people, but the ones I do collect I do buy different editions of, such as The Once and Future King by T.H. White, The Song of Achilles, the Bartimaeus trilogy, etc. I personally don’t like owning multiples of the same book, but I make exceptions when it comes to hardcore favorites. 😊

    1. I know! It’s funny because only one of those versions I got for myself, the others are special edition gifts so I think friends have cottoned onto my interests! The Folio Society edition is so lovely but I just don’t touch it ever!

I’m obviously a huge fan of my nonsense cat and I love that she’s a little black cat. She was born in October so she truly is a witches familiar… not that I’m a witch but you get what I mean!

I think I have a ‘live and let live’ thought process behind multiple copies of books. I wouldn’t buy more than one copy of a book for myself (aside from Norse Mythology but I re-gifted the non signed version that I read) and the multiple copies I have received are gifts but if people want to buy different versions of books I don’t see the harm.

We all have hobbies and even though books and reading are one that a lot of us book bloggers have in common (surprisingly!) I like to hear about the differences in how people approach their hobby. It’s not like people are buying meth! I mean…. they could be….
