Bookish: Book Blogger Hop #31

The Book Blogger Hop is a weekly meme with a prompt featuring a book related question. The hop begins on a Friday and ends on a Thursday and should hopefully give people the opportunity to learn something new about the blogger.

Absolutely. In fact, that’s usually what catches my eye in the first place – as it is intended to do.

Don’t get me wrong – I know the saying, ‘Never judge a book by its cover’ and it is an incredibly true statement. There are beautiful covers that are colour and foil and glitter and gold and flashy typography and stunning images (essentially everything that appeals to me) and yet they contain a story that is disappointing.

Then there are covers that are bland and beige and so ‘meh’ to the eye it hurts and honestly? They can be such a disservice for the feast of the story within.

Of course, content and cover can match but you’ll only know if you give it a go.

I am a self confessed magpie and lover of a pretty cover design. In fact, I’m going to bring out my favourite GIF for this occasion to remind me of what really get’s me going on book covers.

Here are two previously written Top 5’s – one on my Top 5 Book Covers and the other on my Top 5 Book Spines. And yes, the above GIF does feature on one of those too.

It’s an incredibly short post this week my cupcakes because it’s 33 degrees today and I hate summer and can’t concentrate. Have I whinged about this before? You know I have. Will I whinge about it again? Abso-friggin’-lutely.

I don’t know how hotter places cope, I just don’t. It’s so hot I’ve spent the day pretty much staring at the cat who’s just been walking three steps and then flopping down.

It’s sweet, simple and straightforward this week everyone! I’d love to hear your thoughts on whether you’ve chosen / would choose a book based on its cover and if I had to guess I would say the answer would often be yes!

We do seem to like a pretty cover 😉

Next week’s question was whether I review all the books I’ve read but I feel like I’ve answered that one recently when I answered the question about how I get myself psyched to write reviews.

As I feel like I’ve answered that one I won’t be doing a Blog Hopper next week but will try and find something else instead!
