Size doesn’t matter.
Do you remember when this blog used to be a classy establishment?
No, neither do I.
I will read a book that’s 4 pages, 40 pages, 400 pages or 4,000 pages (please god no) if I liked the look of the story enough. It’s not the size of the book that counts but the content within yada yada.
I’m sure I’ve read some hefty tomes in my time but my memory is appalling and I can’t really remember them easily. That’s where Goodreads and it’s handy ‘page count’ setting comes in (yay)!
Because I’ve only really been using Goodreads for a year and a bit the only books I’ve really recorded are the ones read during that time. Out of 73 books recorded as ‘read’ 26 of those are 400+ pages. That counts for 35% of books read in the past year.
The longest of those was this one:-
Winter stands at a whopping 827 pages. For a YA book that’s pretty hefty.
Out of the 154 books that I’ve marked on Goodreads as ‘want to read’ 42 are 400+ pages (27% and the meaning of life) with the longest one beating Winter at 912 pages. Let’s say hey to this one:-
I can’t remember how long it took me to read Winter but when I get round to starting The Mists of Avalon I will try to finish it in the same year. If I don’t then at least I could use it to bop burglars around the head.
In contrast the shortest book that I’ve read was 13 pages!
I rated Conjure and Winter both 3 stars so it goes to show size doesn’t always impact on how much fun can be had.

I am laughing so hard and this classiness is precisely why I adore your blog so much!!! I also don’t think size matters much when it comes to books I will add to my TBR but I do admit that I will often not prioritize the bigger books when it comes to what I choose to read. They just feel like such a time commitment!

I find that I’m not reading nearly as quickly as I used to at the moment so big books are appearing quite intimidating to me right now. But I’m still in the book slump so the last thing I probably need is a mountain when I should be looking at steps.
You get the spirit award anyway, whether you want it or not ;P

Whoa whoa whoa, I don’t think I could ever read a 4,000 page book! 😂 The biggest book I’ve ever read was Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (870 pages, I think?), and it’s the ONLY large book I will read again and again. Otherwise… books over 500 pages usually drag on for me! I have trouble reading them sometimes, but if it’s good, I might end up liking it!

I know, I would shudder to imagine how big a 4,000 page book would look or how long that would take me. I forget how much the Harry Potters grew in size as the series went on!

I think some bloggers don’t read longer books because they take too long to read. When you’re expected to keep putting out content, it’s sadly more difficult to commit to something that will take up so much time. 😦

You know I’ve never considered that element before. If there’s a level of demand for content and you’re expected to supply it would certainly be easier to do with smaller books. That’s so sad though as there are fabulous books that just happen to be on the ‘big’ side. I wonder how much this is true of bloggers and if they feel the pressure to read small to keep blogging?
I would say that’s a possible detrimental side of blogging overtaking reading instead of reading driving blogging which is a shame.

“If I don’t then at least I could use it to bop burglars around the head.” Hehehe your sense of humor always gets to me. 😂 Mists of Avalon I’ve been debating ferociously in my head about whether I should buy in hardback or paperback, but I guess hardback is best if I need to whack people with it? *wink wink*
But yeah, numbers truly don’t matter! I didn’t even realize Winter was over 800 pages because in truth, it kinda felt like 300 to me? The series overall is super quick and easy to read, whereas some of the shorter ones I’ve read took longer to read than that. For example, Priory of the Orange Tree is a hefty tome I need to topple, but apparently it’s a rather fast read; at least, that’s what I’ve heard. 😉

Winter didn’t feel like a slog at all but it’s definitely a large book. It’s all about the content, I’ve read short stories that feel like they’ve gone on forever because they are just that dry.
I’ve not read Priority of the Orange Tree but it is everywhere which means I’ll have to read it at some point. Probably in 2025 when no one else is!
