Bookish: Top 5 Wednesday – Most Anticipated 2019 Releases

Top 5 Wednesday Xmas.jpg

I have genuinely missed doing this tag!

I’ve missed out on some good ones (sob) but the next time there’s a ‘freebie’ round you can bet I’ll return to the November/ December ones I’ve missed.

But this is one topic that I can definitely get behind…. Most Anticipated 2019 Releases. This is the time of year that we start to look back at where we have been and where we begin to look forward and boy… there’s a lot to look forward to.

Here’s my Top 5 for this list (and I really struggled to choose) in no particular order of preference or date.

One

The Starless Sea

*Hyperventilates a little*

Back in 2011, Erin Morgenstern published a book that she had worked on for three NaNoWriMo’s (for those of you that participate – there is hope) and when it was released it swept through the book reading world and stole some hearts.

Eight years after ‘The Night Circus’, Erin Morgenstern is releasing her second novel ‘The Starless Sea’ and from the summary it promises to be just as spectacular with masquerades, subterranean libraries and a world of magic and wonder. The hype is high and the expectation levels are probably higher and I am looking forward to this very much.

Release Date: 5th November 2019

Two

The Familiars.jpg

‘The Familiars’ has such a delicious cover that I couldn’t not be enticed. The soundbite from Jessie Burton (of The Miniaturist) gave me extra life and the description…. well that just sucked me in; hook, line and sinker.

This is a tale that appears to be a mix of historical fiction/ magical realism and contains two of my favourite things – female friendship and witches.

Release Date: 7th February 2019

The Winter of the Witch

‘The Winter of the Witch’ is the final book of a trilogy and follows ‘The Bear and the Nightingale’ and ‘The Girl in the Tower’ and seems to be much anticipated.

I adored The Bear and the Nightingale (my review is here) and the only reason I haven’t read The Girl in the Tower yet (it’s sitting in my physical TBR pile) is because I am waiting for this one to be released so I can read it immediately after and not live with finalitis (as I am calling that feeling when you want to read the last in a book series but can’t because it’s not out yet).

I’m desperate to get to this one but it seriously won’t be long now…

Release Date: 9th January 2019

Four

A Curse so Dark and Lonely.jpg

This is a bit of a cheat one because I have an ARC and so could read this now if I wanted to but for some reason I’m not. Why? Because of all the other ARCs I need to get through.

But seriously, what’s wrong with me??

No, please don’t answer that. I’m a book blogger and wannabe writer, my self esteem is fragile enough as it is.

Why is this appealing to me? Because A Curse so Dark and Lonely is only a friggin’ contemporary fantasy retelling of Beauty and the Beast!!!!!!!!!

I can’t help it, I adore a retelling and I adore Beauty and the Beast. I’m holding out hope for this one.

Release Date: 29th January 2019

Five

The Testaments

I’m not saying that I wanted to cry when I heard this news but I’m not saying that I didn’t. I know I say this a lot about stuff.

I have very strong feelings about The Handmaid’s Tale. Very strong. I studied it for my English Lit A Levels many moons ago and fell in love. I had to analyse this and critique it and pull it apart and that just gave me a stronger appreciation. Even after months of studying The Handmaid’s Tale and the exams I had on its subject matter I never lost the deep, unadulterated feeling that I’d found ‘it.’ ‘It’ being the type of book I wanted to read and write. Also ‘it’ being a strong and uncomfortable understanding of what being a woman is worth in the eyes of some members of this world.

I can’t wait for this sequel, set 15 years after Offred took a step into the darkness or the light, and I’m excited and nervous. Mostly excited.

Release Date: 10th September 2019

What are you most looking forward to? Nervous about your levels of excitement? Concerned about the hype? Tell me all about it!
