Bookish: Top 5 Wednesday – Honeymoon Destinations

honeymoon destinations

I am emerging from my little cocoon like a tired and slightly over-fed butterfly.

Last week I did A Very Cool Thing and got married. It was many levels of awesome, many many levels of awesome and I’m sure when I do my end of month wrap up post you will be subjected to some photos. Just consider yourselves lucky that I’m not sitting you down and forcing you to watch a slide show of over 200 photos.

I jest but someone did this to me. I kept smiling through even though I was dying inside.

So because of that Very Cool Thing I haven’t been doing many blog updates this week on account of sheer fatigue and being brought back to earth with a bump. It also means that I’m behind on other people’s blog posts which I will rectify with immediate effect!

But for now I shall ease myself in with a Top 5. Now because this is one of the moderators birthdays she has thrown a ‘freebie’ for today’s choice.

I could have gone with Top 5 weddings but seriously all I could think of was mass murder and pain (thanks George R.R.Martin). Instead I went with Top 5 Honeymoon Destinations and asked my new husband *giggles* where he would also like to go.

Happy travels!

middle earth

I mean… not all of it.

I can’t imagine me and the hubby enjoying a good ol’ day running screaming from Mirkwood or venturing into the Mines of Moria with our backpacks and our main concern being where we’re going to stop for lunch.

But here is good…

the shire

Or here…

In fact I can’t imagine a more pleasant journey than starting off in a hobbit hole with a good breakfast and better second breakfast before journeying through The Shire to have lunch in Bree at The Prancing Pony and ending up in Rivendell for a luxury night stay in a room that overlooks the waterfalls. There would be drinks and dancing and elves. Awesome.

I bet we would have a much better time than poor Frodo did.

What could be more romantic than having a lovely honeymoon dinner in a restaurant?

Milliways is the name of the restaurant and if travelling to the end of the universe and time and watching the Gnab Gib (the actual end of the universe to me and you) is your idea of romance than this is the place for you.

Customers are varied, payment and booking methods are confusing and the decor is… interesting. But the food selections are vast (a cow that actually recommends its best cuts of meat…. ok, it’s not vegetarian friendly) and you can get the Best Drink in Existence aka a Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster so what more do you need for your hammered nuptial bliss?

pan galactic

willy wonka

For some reason I think this would be a good idea.

Sure, it’s a factory run by a mad-man and maintained by tiny slaves and sure, it was probably inevitably shut down by the police and health & safety after that disturbing incident involving those children but I’m an adult dammit and I have enough restraint to not get into trouble.

None of this tempts me.

I’d be gone quicker than you could say ‘Augustus Gloop’.

wizarding world

Of Harry Potter of course! Like you didn’t know!

I can’t have any destination list without including this. This would probably be less of a day trip and more of a long weekend.

A bit of retail therapy in Diagon Alley wouldn’t go amiss, purchasing a wand from Ollivanders with a pub lunch at the Leaky Cauldron before heading into Godric’s Hollow for a night’s stay (there’d be a room in the pub) for the tourist opportunity. The next morning would involve travelling to Hogsmeade where I would stuff my face at Honeydukes (clearly not feeling sick enough from the chocolate factory visit) and go on a nice long walk around Hogwarts’ grounds before a pub dinner at the Hog’s Head Inn.

I kinda, just desperately want to do this.

We like walks!

This one is strange because it’s actually one that I could probably legitimately do as the fictional wood is based on a real life wood that I can get to. The real life wood has numerous nods to the books of Winnie the Pooh and apparently you can go on a signposted walk that will take you past all the book places.

Because I am a sap I like the idea of throwing Poohsticks from the actual Poohsticks Bridge.

One of the things I mean to do (one of the many, many things) is to go a-travelling around all the book related places that I can get to. I’ve mentioned before that I live in Jane Austen county and there are plenty of places for me to visit.

Must. Get. On. This.

It’s honeymoon destinations in a roundabout way in that it’s places we would go if they existed! My husband (this still feels strange and the novelty is bound to wear off) also suggested Jurassic Park.

That was a hard no from me.

Is there any fictional place that you would travel to if you could? Doesn’t have to be for any occasion other than just because it would be awesome!

  1. OH what the heck, how did I miss your kinda/sorta wedding post?? So many congrats!! And confetti!! ❤ And these are some choice honeymoons spots! Though I don't know what it means that the Willy Wonka factory might be the most hazardous of the five?? I always tell my friend that my top fantasy vacation places are the Shire and 100 Acre Woods 'cause with those two, I have the least chance of getting dead within the first 30 minutes. I'll just chill with Eeyore by the creek and read books. 😛

    1. Thank you so much! It was an awesome day and I will share a photo or two 😛

Yeah, I think I chose poorly in terms of the factory tour. But then maybe no risk, no reward? I am dreaming if I’d think I’d be the last one standing!

Considering as I live so close to the real life 100 Acre Woods it’s a crying shame that I haven’t been there. I plan to fix that asap!!

  2. Congratulations!! Do provide photos! 🙂 Awesome list, you sound like some fantasy wedding planner haha, and you’ve intrigued me with the Middle Earth and HP ones, but the Hundred Acre wood sounds lovely too, I’ll discuss it with my bf and let you know. 😛 Hahaha Jurassic Park sounds so manly, my bf would probably suggest something as Westworld or a zombie apocalypse scenario lol. Men. Glad you’re back (unless you started scheduling?), and I’m finally back too, and I promise I’ll get to reading all 19(!) of your posts I missed. :S

    1. Thank you! I may restrain myself and share one or two pics! Honestly when he suggested Jurassic Park I think my eye started twitching. Thankfully it’s not an actual place otherwise I’d be convincing him in real life that it wasn’t a good idea! I am back! Just going through all my emails and catching up on what I have missed! I’m glad you’re back too, I have missed you!

      1. At least 5 pics please! 😀 Hahaha I can imagine. 😀 Well, there are Jurassic themed parks…but you already have the coolest honeymoon possible already planned! 🙂 Ahh, the catching up part is a long one for me, I missed so much. 😦 Yay! Hopefully I won’t do that again, this is my safe space and I need it. 😀

  3. Awww I was wondering whether you’d gotten married yet! Congratulations! 😁😊

Also, I love this post. I always imagine what fictional worlds I can travel to, and I totally agree Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings are must-haves; I legit would go to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter (the amusement park) for my honeymoon if I ever got married. 😂 And I must say, I question the chocolate factory, but…chocolate galore. I can see why you’d choose that one. 😉

    1. Thank you! I am trying to convince my husband that yes, he does want to go to Florida and yes, he wants to go to the Harry Potter theme park. He does enjoy theme parks so I’m hoping it won’t take much in the way of convincing! Yeah, I wasn’t thinking with my head on the chocolate factory but my very empty tummy…

      1. “Yes, you want to go there. Yes, you want to.” lol the brainwashing. 😂 I’ve been there before, and it’s just fabulous! Highly recommend going there, and do get the early pass if you do ever go; beat the crowds. 😉

  4. Congratulations 🙂 Love this post! I’d agree with all your destinations, except for Willy Wonka’s factory (just too creepy). If you know the Edge Chronicles series, I’d go to the Edge! Or the different universes from His Dark Materials series.
