Bookish: Top 5 Wednesday – Favourite Fandom Items

Bookish

It is time for Top 5 Wednesday and for the month of May it is all about Top 5 Rewind. The ladies who run this meme are incredibly busy and so haven’t been able to get a ‘regular’ schedule sorted for May. I hear you ladies, sometimes I’m so busy I could just hook the tea into an IV and have it inserted straight into a vein just to keep me going.

Instead of a set schedule this month is ‘free-form’ and we have the option to post (or re-post) from one of the previous Wednesdays. As I joined late in the day I have plenty to choose from. This would be a good thing, except I can’t make decisions. But for you, yes you, I have.

Here we go. This week’s theme…

Favourite Fandom Items

This was last weeks (25th April) meme but as I was too busy packing to do this…

espresso martini

…and this…

David

…and this…

Pisa

…and most especially this…

pizza

…I did not do it.

These are not my photos by the way. You will soon see how much I cannot take a photo.

The meme was the Top 5 fandom items you either want or own. I know the saying goes ‘one man’s junk is another man’s treasure’ and I’m pretty sure the same applies to women too but here are my Top 5 items that I already own.*

*Please excuse the shoddy camera work. And the tea stained desk. And the incredibly old and cat hair covered carpet. These are not actually part of the Top 5 unless it’s Top 5 things which need to be redone in my home.

One

Coraline

Hello Coraline and…Coraline doll?

If you haven’t guessed it yet than frankly you’ll never guess it. Neil Gaiman will make his way onto a lot of my lists. Including this one. How could he not?

Coraline is one of my favourite movies. I think it is incredible, I mean incredible. I gush about it and re-watch it and love it so much that I have this little lady sassing me from my bookshelf. She sits with the Neil Gaiman books where she most definitely belongs and lords it up over the Human Resource and Psychology books one shelf below.

Coraline is just awesome. She was gifted to me by someone also awesome.

Two

harry potter wand

Yes, the infamous tea stained desk and cat haired floor. It’s truly awful. But let’s look at what I want you to look at… yes…my Harry Potter wand. My Hermione Harry Potter wand.

“ITS NOT A TOY!” Is what I screech at friends children when they come round. Because I have a lot of toys collectibles in my study I have to keep the door shut. They’re all only getting taller though and more able to open handles so this sh*t is getting real.

I love Harry Potter because I grew up with it and the final book was released the same night I graduated from university. You bet I was waiting in the queue come midnight.

This is from the Studio Tour which I am incredibly lucky to have gone to several times because it’s only something like 40 minutes away. It’s only a problem if I can’t stop going. And I can. At any time.

Three

katniss doll

You bet I’ve got a Katniss Barbie doll. Did I get this for my 30th birthday as a present from my husband to be? You bet my sweet Mockingjay I did. Did I specifically request this toy collectors item from my husband to be for my 30th birthday? You bet my sweet Peeta’s buns I did.

Katniss is the yardstick by which I measure all YA heroines.

Four

matilda4

This Matilda artwork is one of my most favourite things in the world. I love Roald Dahl and I love Matilda, both the book and the character. It was wonderful as a book reading child to read a book about a book reading child. Sure, she had telepathic powers and I could barely throw a ball but I love heroines who don’t just use physical strength to overcome adversity in their stories.

Plus she’s short and dark haired like me. It was meant to be!

five

quote wall1quote wall2

I always seem to throw a ‘cheat’ item in and this week is no exception.

When I was younger I always said to myself, “Gerry, when you get your own house you are going to hand-paint book quotes onto a wall.” It seemed like such a good idea at the time of thinking it.

You know what? It remained a bloody great idea at the time of doing it! The above are two pictures of my hand-painted book quote wall. It’s a fandom item because I’m saying it is. But yes, I have and will always be a fan of books and their words first.

The above took me five months and was 100% done by hand by myself. I was supposed to be doing my Master’s dissertation so of course I prioritised this. Let’s get one thing straight, if I had a superhero power and a superhero name it would be The Procrastinator.

I’m pretty sure I’m supposed to be doing something else instead of writing this blog… nah, that doesn’t sound right.

Crap. I’m supposed to be planning a wedding.

What did you think of my favourite fandom items? Ignoring of course the lack of any artistic composition and fur-balls.

Do you have any items that you own and treasure or are there any items that you want to own? I feel like I haven’t stopped nerding out with fandom’s. This is only the beginning.

Thank you for reading!

Until next time!#T5W

  1. Omg your treasures are beautiful!!! I wish I had at least something, but the only thing I own is a Darth Vader plushie. 😦 The problem is that you can’t find anything in Serbia, and the shipping costs are brutal, like $50 for a $9 funko pop figurine. 😦 Actually I have a custom made Batman bookshelf that glows on the edges, if that counts?

Your wall is gorgeoussss ❤ I've always wanted to do that, but I'm under rent so..when I get a house it's the first thing I'll do! And the second will be a life-sized tardis bookshelf which I'll beg and bribe my brother to do, who will probably leave the country then, as it took him almost 2 months to do the batman shelf… And then I'll ask for Doors of Durin, which might send my brother to an early grave, and turn my house into a geek museum… I can't wait!

I especially love Coraline, I need one too asap! ❤

    1. Thank you! In my heart I am a forever a fangirl and always will be I think.

I do love my wall, it was one of things I’ve always wanted to do and as soon as we got our house it was done! I mean not suddenly done as that thing took so much time and I contorted myself into shapes to get it right but I love it!

Get all the bookshelves! Just beg and bribe your brother!!

  2. “I know the saying goes ‘one man’s junk is another man’s treasure’ and I’m pretty sure the same applies to women too…” hahaha the shade XD Love your choices here! I adore Coraline, Matilda, and the Hunger Games, and by GOSH am I jealous you got to go to the HP Studio Tour; I got my Hermione wand from Universal Studios. 😉

And gosh, that wall is lovely! If you search online, there was an article about a fan who painted the entire first page of Harry Potter on her wall, and that’s what I actually plan to do when I officially settle down as well. Yours reminds me a lot of that, except this is much more colorful haha. 😀

    1. I have yet to go to the Harry Potter World in Universal Studios and I am desperate to go.

I’ve seen that article! She did a projection I think, if I remember correctly? Thank you, I love my little wall too and have always wanted one!
